DAVID BUTTEN APPOINTED TO LOCAL DRUG ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Part owner of Khe Sanh, David Butten has been appointed as a community representative on the newly formed City of Greater Dandenong Alcohol and Drug Advisory Council, chaired by Mayor, Cr John Kelly. If anyone has issues, suggestions or information they would like to have put before the Committee please contact David on 0414 251 474 or by email at david@khesanh.biz  The following is a reprint of a recent article in the Dandenong Journal which outlines David’s background Restaurateur proud to helpDandenong Journal article by Michael Randall 2/06/2008  GREATER Dandenong drug and alcohol advisory committee member David Butten is proud of his Springvale restaurant's history of helping the community and wants to continue that tradition through the new committee. With a background as senior manager of the Victorian Liquor Licensing Commission and manager of crime prevention for the Department of Justice, the Keysborough resident fits the bill as a more than capable member of the new committee. "Through Khe Sanh Asian Restaurant, we're very community oriented. We sponsor a number of community groups and basically give help when it's needed. "Being on this committee is an extension of that philosophy, to give something back to the local community.'' Mr Butten's partner in the business is Jack Nguyen, a Vietnamese Australian, and he is married to a Vietnamese woman. They have a three-year-old child. "I want to promote the values of diversity and give something back. "The committee will operate at a strategic level and provide an overview of all the services that are currently being provided in Greater Dandenong in relation to a whole range of issues. "We'll look at trends that are happening and provide a big picture view for the agencies and services working in Greater Dandenong. "Alcohol and drug abuse is a symptom of a wider problem and we've got to be able to identify what's causing these problems and address it at that level - we need a strategic understanding of the issues.''

TWO KHE SANH CUPS IN 2009  Following the success of the inaugural Khe Sanh Cup launched last year between SFL 2nd Division giants, Springvale Districts and Dingley Football Clubs, we were proud to sponsor another Khe Sanh Cup in 2008 between local 3rd Division rivals, the Sandown Cobras and Dandenong Football Clubs. The event was a tremendous success with the Dandenong Mayor, Cr John Kelly (pictured top left) and football legend, Jim ‘Frosty’ Miller (pictured bottom left) in attendance. The Cup was presented to the winners, Dandenong FC by Frosty Miller and the game was televised live by the Southern Footy Show on Channel 31. Also pictured are Lew Short, President of the Sandown Cobras (top right) and David Butten from Khe Sanh. The picture comes courtesy of the Dandenong Journal.

In 2009, we are eagerly awaiting the return of our original Khe Sanh Cup Grudge Match between Dingley and Springvale District Football Clubs, now that both clubs have been elevated to 1st Division of the Southern Football League.

Khe Sanh is proud to be a major sponsor of the Southern Football League, the Southern Footy and Radio Shows.

ENJOY A KHE SANH LAGER !
We now have a very own beer label - Khe Sanh Lager. Ask for a stubbie next time you dine-in or order some with your take away meal (six pack limit) at a special take away price of $3 a stubbie or $15 a six pack.
Khe Sanh Lager is a high quality boutique beer brewed by 'Brewtopia'. It is a traditional European style lager brewed using all natural ingredients and no added preservatives. The nose has an appetising malt aroma with a hint of spicy saaz hops. The beer has a clean malty finish with low bitterness. See the chart below to see how it compares in flavour and style to other popular beers.
Incidently, this is the same beer enjoyed down by the housemates in Big Brother 2005 and by the Doctors in All Saints, so you are in good company.

 FEEDING THE HUNGRY
From what we can ascertain the site below appears to be genuine charitable site and is an easy and totally free way you can assist in feeding the world’s homeless.  Simply go to the Hunger Site http://www.thehungersite.com and click a button and somewhere in the world a hungry person gets a meal to eat, at no cost to you.  The food is apparently paid for by corporate sponsors who gain advertising in the process because you see their logo. However, you're only allowed one donation per day.  Another similar site can be found at http://www.freerice.com/  If any of our customers knows of similar programs we can increase awareness of in the local community, please let us know.
