Khe Sanh opened its doors on the 5th December 2001 and with our great service and some of Melbourne’s best Asian food, our restaurant has developed a reputation as the place to go for fine food, wine, beer and coffee at affordable prices.
Many Australians would simply know Khe Sanh as the title of a famous Cold Chisel song but Khe Sanh was actually the site of the most intense battle fought in the entire Vietnam War* - see 'now & then' photos below.
While the Vietnamese War was a tragic event, one positive outcome is the cultural enrichment that the many Vietnamese migrants and refugees have made to our nation and this is particularly evident in Melbourne’s Springvale and surrounding suburbs.
Our Maitre De Extraordinaire, Jack Nguyen was himself one of the original Vietnamese boat people.
Jack has had a wealth of experience in the food industry in both Vietnam and Australia and he boasts that he is proud to be able to offer a range of the best Asian dishes to have come out of Vietnam, China, Thailand, and Malaysia, as well as some unique meals made to his own special recipes.
The house specialty is Jack’s spicy salt calamari with a fresh lemon juice dipping sauce – you will have to travel far and wide to find a tastier and more, tender calamari dish.
Khe Sanh is a great venue for family and work functions. Smokers also find the large landscaped wine and beer garden particularly attractive.
Khe Sanh is jointly owned by Jack Nguyen and Aussie, David Butten, in what is probably a unique ‘East – West’ combination for a local Asian restaurant. We believe this enables us to better understand our diverse local multi cultural community and tailor our service to best meet our customer’s needs.
